BUKAYO
Jamaica Ramirez
Coconut is the most important crops in
the tropical areas. Indonesia dominates the world as one of the biggest coconut
producing country followed by the Philippines with an annual production of 15
million tons of coconuts (Burton, 2018). When you feel that you want to eat
something sweet you should try the Bukayo it is a Filipino version of coconut
candy and its consist of strips of mature buko meat (coconut meat) and dark
brown sugar and it’s also called as coconut toffee. People believed that Bukayo
is originates from Lingayen, Pangasinan.
The coconut tree is called as “The Tree
of Life” because of the products which can be made from its different parts and
one of this is the Bukayo that can derived by the buko. Filipino children love
this because it’s sweet. All throughout the Philippines island bukayo is known
and some people do this or what they called “Homemade Bukayo” are usually
formed like neat squares or half-cubes. I think it can help to alleviate
poverty in the Philippines when people try to make this since its not that hard
and the ingredients are not expensive and then they can sell it so that they can
make money for their needs even its little, it can lessen their hardship to
earn money just to get money to buy their needs. I think this Bukayo can help a
lot since it’s not expensive and easy to do so why not try this.
In addition, Bukayo can also be use
to alleviate poverty and with its sweetness people will be happily eating this
and Bukayo is made by the Filipino’s so I'm sure that its good and many people
will love this.
